Duane Ashimine

 Chief Executive Officer

Duane began his career in the energy industry in 1989 as an energy engineer at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii working on nuclear submarines. He later transitioned to the nation’s 15th largest mechanical contractor “Alakai Mechanical”, owned by Japan’s Taisei and then joined Hawaiian Electric’s Power Corp. as an energy engineer. Mr. Ashimine later led Energy Industries Corporation as its Chief Technology Officer. He has been recognized as the State of Hawaii’s Technology Leader of the Year 2007 and earned his BS from the University of Hawaii in Mechanical Engineering. He is also a Certified Energy Manager, Certified Demand Side Manager, Certified Cogeneration Specialist, Licensed Hawaii C52 Mechanical Contractor, Certified Project Manager.


Ken Shimada

Chief Financial Officer

Ken has deep expertise in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A). Prior to Modare, Ken was the Chief Operating Officer at Energy Industries Corporation overseeing Administration, Finance and Operations. Before that he served as the Vice President of Finance at Solar Power Technology where he assisted in over $90 million of capital formation. He previously served at a publicly traded fuel cell and polysilicon manufacturing company Hoku Scientific where he assisted in the formation of $700 million for the construction of the company’s polysilicon plant in Idaho, oversaw the plant’s construction and participated on the Initial Public Offering to the NASDAQ exchange. Mr. Shimada began his career as an analyst at a Private Equity firm MN Capital. Mr. Shimada earned a BBA from the University of Hawaii


Darren Kimura

Chairman of the Board

Darren began his career in 1991 as a project manager at JK Electric one of Hawaii’s largest design-build electrical and telecommunications contractor. There, he worked to construct the Subaru astronomical telescope project, designed and implemented the energy efficiency lighting project for the State of Hawaii Airports Division and led numerous other projects. He later served as consultant to Hawaiian Electric, the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and at Cisco Systems.

Darren was the founder and CEO at Energy Industries Corporation and Solar Power Technology.  He is an inventor on 14 patents and led the acquisition of $2 billion in contracts. He was recognized as the SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2002, Minority Entrepreneur of the Year from the Department of Commerce, Ally of the Year by Hawaiian Electric, an Energy Pioneer by the EPA and was awarded the Honua “Earth” Prize by the Blue Planet Foundation.  He has also served on the Board of Directors at the Honolulu Chamber of Commerce,  The East-West Center, Aloha Council Boy Scouts of America,  the Dean's Council at the University of Hawaii College of Engineering, the Blue Planet Foundation, the State of Hawaii Venture Capital Fund, PBS Hawaii and as an Entrepreneur In Residence at Punahou School 

Darren is a Certified Energy Manager, a Certified Demand Side Management Professional, a Certified Cogeneration Specialists, Certified Fiber Optics Installer, a licensed Electrical Contractor, Google Cloud Certified and is an Eagle Scout.  Mr. Kimura earned his BA from the University of Hawaii.
